Men’s lacrosse comes up short to Rhodes in overtime

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team fell to Rhodes 8-7 in overtime on Saturday.

Huntingdon fell behind early in the first quarter after Rhodes scored the game's first goal 1:06 into play. The Hawks (5-3) answered back after Patrick Rowe found Jakob Works for Huntingdon's first goal.

Rowe, Kendrick Ballard and Davis Dalton netted goals in the first quarter to give Huntingdon a 4-2 lead going into the second quarter.

Works scored a man-up goal early in the second before Ballard scored his second to put the Hawks up 6-2. Rhodes scored once more in the quarter to go into halftime trailing 6-3.

The Lynx (5-0) used a 3-0 third quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth.

Jackson Schrampfer gave Huntingdon the lead with 12:16 remaining in the game before Rhodes tied the game with 5:57 remaining. Both teams had chances in the remaining time but couldn't find the goal as time expired.

Sam Hitt won the opening faceoff in overtime, but a Huntingdon turnover gave Rhodes an opportunity on offense. The Lynx scored 1:03 into overtime to take the win.

Hitt finished the day 13-of-16 on faceoffs and had a game-high 11 ground balls.

Fabien Gutierrez recorded 14 saves and allowed eight goals.

Works and Ballard scored twice while Rowe had one goal and one assist. Dalton and Schrampfer scored once.

Karson Hastings added an assist and Josh Clayton recorded three ground balls.

Huntingdon hosts Ferrum on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
