Works and Ballard lead Huntingdon to win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team picked up its seventh win of the season on Monday, defeating Transylvania 10-6 in Samford Stadium.

Jakob Works and Kendrick Ballard each had three goals to lead the Hawks (7-5) to the win.

Ballard scored 33 seconds into the game to give Huntingdon an early 1-0 lead before the Pioneers scored two unanswered goals to take the lead. After a tripping penalty by Transylvania, Ballard scored an unassisted man-up goal to tie the game.

Patrick Rowe assisted Karson Hastings to give Huntingdon a 3-2 lead with 1:08 remaining in the first quarter. The Hawks held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Senior goalie Fabien Gutierrez finished with 12 saves and five ground balls while allowing six goals in the win.

Works scored two unassisted goals to start the second quarter before Jackson Schrampfer scored his seventh goal of the season to put Huntingdon up by four. The Pioneers pulled within three but Rowe scored 49 seconds later with an assist by Hastings to give the Hawks a 7-3 lead going into halftime.

Huntingdon outshot Transylvania 32-29 and finished 10-for-11 on clears while the Pioneers went 12-for-15.

The Pioneers scored 19 seconds into the second half but Works answered with his third 4:21 later. Works recorded his only assist on Ballard's third goal to give Huntingdon a 9-4 lead. After two unanswered goals by Transylvania, Brandon Scheele scored a man-down goal with 6:20 remaining to close out the scoring.

Sam Hitt battled all day at the faceoff x, going 10-of-19 with three ground balls.

Scheele and Schrampfer each scored once while Rowe and Hastings each had one goal and one assist. Mac Puller recorded one assist.
