Works’ six goals lead Hawks past Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team built a seven-goal lead in the first half and cruised to a 10-3 win over Piedmont on Saturday night.

This was the Hawks' fourth win in five meetings with Piedmont.

Senior Jakob Works scored five of the Hawks' first seven goals and finished the night with six goals. He also had one assist.

This was the ninth time in his collegiate career that Works has scored at least six goals in a game. Works, who set the Hawks' single-season record with 56 goals as a sophomore, now has 53 goals this season.

Miles Stading, Jackson Schrampfer, William Monlezun and Austen Saucier each scored one goal for Huntingdon (8-9). Karson Hastings had two assists and Davis Dalton had one assist.

Stading scored the Hawks' first goal, on an assist from Hastings, less than four minutes into the game. The Hawks scored three goals in the final 4:44 of the first quarter, with Schrampfer scoring on an assist from Works and Works scoring two unassisted goals.

Works scored all three of Huntingdon's goals in the second quarter. Hastings and Dalton had assists on the final two goals of the first half.

After Piedmont (1-10) scored early in the third quarter, Works scored his final goal of the game with 3:11 left in the third quarter. Monlezun and Saucier scored the Hawks' final two goals in the fourth quarter.

Sam Hitt won 13-of-16 faceoffs and recorded 12 ground balls. Hastings and Brandon Maynor each had two caused turnovers.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded six saves, six ground balls and allowed three goals.
