Men’s lacrosse loses at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team lost 20-6 at Berry College on Saturday.

Berry (1-0) scored the game's first goal in just of over a minute of play and took a 9-3 lead into halftime.

Trailing by 1-0, Austen Saucier scored for the Hawks (1-1) with an assist from Jackson Schrampfer. Berry used a 7-0 run to pull ahead 8-1 before Karson Hastings found Mac Puller for Huntingdon's second goal of the day.

With just over two minutes to play in the opening half, Hastings recorded his second assist after Brandon Scheele scored on a man-up play.

Berry added two more goals to start the third quarter. Kendrick Ballard scored his only goal on a man-up advantage with an assist from Hastings. The Vikings used a 5-0 run to pull ahead 16-4 early in the fourth quarter.

Hastings scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Sam Hitt before Brandon Scheele scored his second goal of the game with help from Schrampfer. Berry closed the game with four more goals. 

Dawson Jones led the Hawks with six ground balls and had one caused turnover. Josh Clayton finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Hastings had a team-high four points (1g, 3a) on the day while Scheele (2g) and Schrampfer (2a) each had two points. Ballard, Puller and Saucier each had one goal.

Hitt finished the afternoon 11-for-20 at the faceoff x and picked up four ground balls and had one assist.

Matt Murphy played just under 45 minutes in goal and recorded 11 saves while giving up 14 goals.
