Hawks cruise to victory over Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team defeated Millsaps College 17-6 on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Hawks (2-1) earn their third straight win over the Majors (0-3) and even the series 3-3.

Jackson Schrampfer led all scorers with five points. The junior scored three goals and had two assists while Brandon Scheele shad a game-high four goals.

Schrampfer scored the game's first goal with an assist from Karson Hastings with 6:45 remaining in the opening quarter. Just under three minutes later, Schrampfer found Hastings to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Miles Stading scored a man-up goal 25 seconds later to put Huntingdon ahead 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Schrampfer recorded his second assist when he found Zach Barnhill for an early second quarter goal. After the Majors made the score 4-2, Sam Hitt won a faceoff and found Caleb Bohrer to pull ahead by three goals. Scheele scored with four seconds left in the half to give Huntingdon a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Huntingdon rattled off four goals in the third quarter and took a 10-3 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Hawks scored five straight goals in the fourth quarter before Millsaps answered with a pair of goals. Scheele scored two goals in 23 seconds to end the game for the Hawks.

Bohrer finished with two goals and two assists while Stading had one goal and two assists. Austen Saucier and Kendrick Ballard each scored twice while Hastings had one goal and one assist.

Matt Murphy recorded 13 saves in goal and allowed only three in just over 50 minutes of play. Stephen Dan stopped five shots in five minutes of action. Dylan Langdale closed the game in goal for the Hawks.

Hitt scored once and had one assist and went 17-for-19 from the faceoff x. The sophomore also scooped up 11 ground balls. Cameron Glisson went 4-for-5 at faceoffs and had two ground balls.

Barnhill had one goal and Seth Howe had one assist. Mac Puller collected five ground balls while Josh Clayton had two ground balls.

Huntingdon travels to Hendrix on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
