CONWAY, Ark. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team lost to Hendrix College 9-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Huntingdon drops to 2-2 on the season while the Warriors improve to 2-2.

Hendrix opened the game with a goal in the first 16 seconds of play to take an early 1-0 lead. The Hawks would answer back after Karson Hastings found Zach Barnhill to even the score 1-1 with 10:06 left in the opening quarter.

After a Hendrix goal with 2:06 left in the first, A.J. Harper scored his first goal of the season with eight seconds left in the first to tie the game 2-2 going into the second quarter.

A slow second quarter resulted with Hendrix taking nine shots to Huntingdon's four. The Warriors were unable to find the back of the net while Barnhill scored for the Hawks midway through the quarter with an assist from Jackson Schrampfer. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead into halftime.

Huntingdon pushed its lead to 4-2 early in the third with a goal by Kendrick Ballard, but Hendrix answered back just over four minutes later and eventually tied the game 4-4 with 4:58 remaining in the quarter. Sophomore goalie Matt Murphy recorded seven saves during the third after seeing 12 shots.

Both teams traded goals to start the fourth quarter but the Hendrix offense seemed to be too much for the Hawks. The Warriors scored five goals while Huntingdon managed only two.

The Hawks pulled within one goal with 6:46 remaining after a Mac Puller score, but Hendrix answered back less than a minute later and scored the game's final goal with 3:45 remaining.   

Murphy finished the game with 18 saves, nine goals allowed and six ground balls. Sam Hitt went 10-for-18 at the faceoff x and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls.

Barnhill scored twice for the Hawks while Puller had one goal and one assist. Miles Stading, Harper and Ballard each finished with one goal. Schrampfer and Hastings each had one assist.

The Hawks travel to Oglethorpe on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. matchup.
