MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team lost 9-7 against Rhodes on Saturday.

Trailing 9-3 late in the third quarter, Huntingdon used a 4-0 run to pull within two goals of Rhodes with more than 10 minutes left in the game. The Lynx defense tightened up late and prevented a Huntingdon comeback.

Rhodes (4-0) scored the game's first two goals 40 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead with 11:40 remaining in the opening quarter. A little less than eight minutes later, Miles Stading found Caleb Bohrer to give the Hawks their first goal.

After a Huntingdon turnover with less than 20 seconds left in the first quarter, Rhodes pushed the ball down the field and pulled ahead 3-1 with six seconds left.

Rhodes extended its lead early in second quarter with a pair of goals and led 5-2 with 12:41 left in the first-half. Just over a minute later, Kendrick Ballard scored for the Hawks before Mac Puller closed the half with a goal.

Leading 5-3 after halftime, Rhodes rattled off four goals to pull ahead 9-3 with 4:49 left in the third quarter. Close to three minutes later, Bohrer scored a man-up goal from an assist by Karson Hastings.

After winning the ensuing face-off to himself, Sam Hitt raced down the field and scored his fourth goal of the season and turned the momentum in the game.

Down by four, the Hawks' defense prevented Rhodes from scoring in the fourth. Brandon Scheele and Austen Saucier each scored in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter for Huntingdon but the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net in the final 10 minutes and fell to 3-3 on the season.

Matt Murphy played a solid game in goal and recorded 15 saves while allowing nine goals. Hitt scored one goal and went 11-of-19 at the faceoff x while picking up seven ground balls.

Bohrer finished the game with two goals while Puller ended with one goal and one assist. Saucier, Ballard and Scheele each had one goal and Hastings and Stading had one assist.

Huntingdon returns to action on Wednesday when Capital University visits Montgomery. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
