Division III Week Student Spotlight - Josh Clayton

This week is NCAA Division III Week and member institutions across the country are celebrating the sixth-year event.

Division III Week, which runs from Monday through Sunday, is intended to recognize the academic and athletic accomplishments as well as the campus leadership and community service efforts of Division III student-athletes.

As part of Huntingdon College's participation in Division III Week, five student-athletes will be featured this week. Huntingdon senior Josh Clayton is today's featured student-athlete.

Year: Sr.

Hometown: Birmingham, Ala.

Major: Digital Art

Career Goals: Freelance after graduation and eventually own his own advertising agency

Sport: Men's Lacrosse

Athletic Accomplishments: Clayton has appeared in 62 games during his Huntingdon career while making 60 starts. He is the Huntingdon career leader with 66 caused turnovers and ranks fourth with 143 ground balls. He was named All-SEILC as a junior long-stick midfielder. This season, Clayton has started 10 games, missing five due to injury, has 16 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

Academic Achievements and Campus Activities: During his time at Huntingdon, Clayton has been a Huntingdon Ambassador, member of the Accounting Club and was named Academic All-Conference team his junior season.

What made you feel like Huntingdon was the right place for you? "Huntingdon really makes you like family here. There is a vibe here that makes it feel like home and the lacrosse team was really welcoming so I knew this is where I wanted to be."

What has made your Huntingdon experience unique? "The internships I have had here in Montgomery. I interned with WCOV and Gump Town Magazine and learned a lot from both. WCOV was cool because I worked with Matt Johnson, who is a Huntingdon alumnus, and he taught me a lot about design techniques. It was nice to be able to work with a former Hawk."

How has Huntingdon challenged you academically and athletically? "It's always challenging being a student-athlete, but over the past four years I have been able to manage my time wisely. I'm trying to stay ahead of assignments, but I have been getting involved with other activities throughout my time at Huntingdon, so it's been tricky, but I am a lot better now than I was as a freshman."

What has been your biggest highlight as a Huntingdon student-athlete? "I have two. Last season I was named All-Conference in lacrosse and I was chosen to be a Huntingdon Ambassador."

As a student-athlete, what is your impression of Division III now compared to your first season? "There is a lot more talent in Division III than I thought. We play some really talented schools with some quality players. It makes you step up your game and pushes you to be better every day."
