Men’s lacrosse ranked 3rd in USA South preseason poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team enters its first season of competition in the USA South Athletic Conference as the third-ranked team in the conference preseason poll.

This is the first season the USA South has sponsored men's lacrosse. Huntingdon competed as an independent during its first six seasons.

The Hawks received one first-place vote and 30 points in the poll released on Wednesday. Ferrum and Methodist tied for first with each team receiving three first-place votes and 31 points.

Methodist defeated Ferrum in the 2017 Southeast Independent Lacrosse Championship Tournament championship. The SEILC was comprised of the five USA South schools (Huntingdon, Methodist, Ferrum, Greensboro and Piedmont) that competed in men's lacrosse.

USA South members William Peace and Averett will compete in men's lacrosse beginning this season. New conference members, Brevard and Pfeiffer, are reclassifying from Division II to Division III and are not eligible for consideration in the poll this season.

Behind the top three teams in the poll, Piedmont is fourth with 20 points, Greensboro is fifth with 18 points, William Peace is sixth with 11 points and Averett is seventh with six points.

Huntingdon opens the season on Feb. 10 at the University of Dallas at 3 p.m.
