Huntingdon men’s lacrosse puts together first 4-0 start

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team took control early and put Oglethorpe away in the second half of an 18-7 win at Samford Stadium on Wednesday.

With the win, the seventh-year Hawks are off to 4-0 start for the first time in program history. Wednesday's victory pushes Huntingdon's record to 7-0 all-time against the Stormy Petrels.

Huntingdon built a 5-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game but Oglethorpe answered with four goals in the final nine minutes of the first half. The Petrels cut Huntingdon's lead to three goals twice before Huntingdon began to pull away.

The Hawks carried a 9-4 lead into halftime and outscored Oglethorpe 9-3 in the second half. During a 12-minute span from the final minute of the third quarter to final 4:01 of the game, Huntingdon scored six straight goals to build an 18-6 lead.

Kendrick Ballard led the Hawks with four goals and Seth Howe had three goals and one assist. Bryce Coates recorded two goals and two assists, Austen Saucier and Mac Puller each added two goals and one assist and Adrian Harper finished with one goal and one assist.

Zach Barnhill had two assists, Miles Stading, Jackson Schrampfer, Austin Ohliger and Carmen Fuentes each scored one goal and Caleb Bohrer had one assist.

Sam Hitt was 15-for-21 on faceoffs and had a game-high 14 ground balls.

Goalie Matt Murphy recorded three saves and allowed five goals in the first half. Stephen Dan played goalie in the second half and finished with three saves and two goals allowed.

Quick Facts: Wednesday's win over Oglethorpe was the 50th win for the Huntingdon program and head coach Andrew Carey. The very first win in program history also came against Oglethorpe. In the first game in Huntingdon history, the Hawks beat Oglethorpe 12-5 at Samford Stadium on Feb. 18, 2012.
