Huntingdon wins in overtime to improve to 5-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team pushed its winning streak to five games with a 13-12 overtime win against Brevard on Saturday.

Senior Kendrick Ballard scored the winning goal, 23 seconds into overtime, on an assist from Zach Barnhill. This was the second time in three games that Ballard has scored the decisive goal in overtime.

With a 5-0 record, this is the best start in program history for the seventh-year Hawks. The five-game winning streak is also tied for the longest winning streak in program history. The 2014 team won five straight midseason games.

On Saturday, the Hawks were in a battle from the start. Neither team led by more than three goals in the game, with Brevard taking a 3-2 lead in the first quarter and Huntingdon taking a 6-3 lead in the second quarter. 

The two teams matched each other with three goals apiece in the first quarter before Huntingdon took a 6-5 lead into halftime. The score was tied 10-10 after three quarters and 12-12 after four quarters.

Ballard and Adrian Harper each finished with three goals and an assist and Barnhill had two goals and four assists. Mac Puller added one goal and one assist and Bryce Coates, Jackson Schrampfer, Caleb Bohrer and Austen Saucier each scored one goal.

Sam Hitt was 14-for-28 on faceoffs and had five ground balls. Raymond Edwards had four ground balls and Tyler Keiser had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Goalie Matt Murphy finished the game with 10 saves and 12 goals allowed.
