Strong second half sparks Huntingdon in win over Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team took the lead in the final seconds of the first half and knocked off Hendrix 11-6 on Saturday.

The win was the second straight against Hendrix and the sixth in eight games with the Warriors since 2012.

Trailing 4-2 late in the first quarter, Huntingdon began to gain momentum. A goal by Sam Hitt made it 4-3 at the end of the first. The Hawks scored twice in the final minute of the second quarter to tie the game and take the lead for good.

Austen Saucier's goal with 53 seconds left in the first half tied the game and Miles Stading's goal with one second left in the first half put the Hawks in front 5-4. Huntingdon pulled away in the second half, outscoring Hendrix 5-1 in the third quarter and built an 11-5 lead in the fourth quarter.

Adrian Harper scored three goals and had three ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Hawks. Hitt and Stading each scored two goals. Hitt was 17-for-20 on faceoffs and finished with 14 ground balls. Stading had three ground balls.

Bryce Coates, Zach Barnhill, Mac Puller and Saucier each had one goal. Barnhill had two caused turnovers and Puller had three ground balls. Raymond Edwards had a team-high four caused turnovers and Mike Jones had two caused turnovers.

Goalie Matt Murphy recorded 12 saves and allowed six goals in 60 minutes.
