Hawks stumble at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team started strong but could not keep pace in a 12-7 loss to Birmingham-Southern on Saturday.

The Hawks built a 3-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game but could not match Birmingham-Southern in the final three quarters. Huntingdon fell behind 4-3 at the beginning of the second quarter and trailed 6-4 at halftime.

The Hawks tied the game 6-6 early in the third quarter before the Panthers scored five straight goals to pull away.

Adrian Harper had two goals, an assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Hawks and Bryce Coates scored two goals. Sam Hitt scored one goal and was 18-for-22 on faceoffs. Although the stats were not complete Saturday night, Hitt unofficially had 13 ground balls.

Zach Barnhill and Mac Puller each scored one goal and Brayden Puckett had one assist.

Goalie Matt Murphy finished with 17 saves and 12 goals allowed in 60 minutes.

Head Coach Andrew Carey on Saturday's loss: "We really let that one slip away. Our execution was extremely poor today. I am going to have to do a better job of coaching and our team is going to have to practice a lot harder for us to improve on our in-game execution."
