Hawks Taken Down by Dallas in Season Opener

Irving, Tx.-Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse was defeated by Dallas, 14-11 in their season opener.

The Hawks scored first with Kole Andres scoring at 9:28 of the first quarter before Dallas scored 4 unanswered goals to close out the first quarter. In the second quarter, Dallas scored 4 more goals, taking an 8-1 lead before Kole Andres scored at 8:59. Ian Bruggeman scored 2 goals, at 7:59 and 5:54, bringing the Hawks within 4. Dallas scored again at the end of the first half, taking a 9-4 lead into halftime.

The Hawks went back and forth in the third quarter with Kole Andres scoring 2 more goals to answer 2 Dallas goals. With the Hawks down 13-6, Bruggeman scored at 2:43 with an assist by Paul Gordon and Caden Bacz scored at 2:13 with an assist from Bruggeman, making it 13-8.

Huntingdon scored 3 straight goals in the fourth quarter, with Bacz scoring at 11:16 and 10:26. Andres scored at 9:56, making it 13-11. The Hawks were unable to make the comeback, with Dallas adding another goal at 6:13 of the fourth quarter.

Jesse Thomas made 17 saves on 31 shots. Bacz had 7 shots on goal while both Paul Gordon and Kole Andres had 6 shots on goal. Brennan Madonia led the team with 5 ground balls.

"Our execution was extremely poor today," Head Coach Andrew Carey said. "We will not accomplish much until we start playing like a team, executing the game plans, and improving our overall awareness and understanding of how to play the game. I know we will learn a lot from this film and look forward to a bounce back and focused effort tomorrow." 

The Hawks are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Centenary. Game time is set for 1:00 PM CST.
