Hawks Escape William Peace In Triple Overtime Thriller

RALEIGH,NC.- In a triple overtime thriller, Huntingdon men's lacrosse (3-6 overall, 1-0 USA South) defeated the William Peace Pacers (1-5 overall, 0-1 USA South) 15-14 on the road in their conference opener.

 

How it happened

First quarter

  • At the 12:45 mark, Tristan Dial got the Hawks on the board first with an unassisted goal

  • Landen Conrad followed Dial at the 4:53 mark with a goal of his own to push the Huntingdon advantage to 2-0

  • Conrad scored his second goal of the afternoon at the 2:19 mark to extend Huntingdon's lead to 3-0.

  • With under two minutes to go in the quarter, William Peace scored, but Kelcey Marson quickly answered in the final 10 seconds to give Huntingdon a 4-1 lead entering the second quarter

Second quarter

  • Not to be outdone, William Peace opened the second quarter with three consecutive goals to even the score at 4-4 by the 10:33 mark

  • Colton Keglovic stopped the bleeding with a goal off an assist from Brady Moulton at the 9:09 mark to push Huntingdon's lead back to 5-4

  • Less than a minute later, Gage Kettlewell put in a goal to extend the lead to 6-4

  • The Pacers responded with two unanswered goals to tie the game at 6 by the 6:55 mark

  • Kelcey Marston scored his second goal at the 4:04 mark to put Huntingdon back ahead 7-6

  • William Peace closed the half with two goals to hold a 8-7 lead at the half

Third quarter

  • After 5 minutes without a goal, William Peace got the first points of the half at the 9:33 mark to push their lead to 9-7

  • Landen Conrad put in his third goal to cut the lead to 9-8 by the 7:31 mark, which Gage Kettlewell followed at the 6:00 minute mark with the game-tying goal

  • To close the quarter, Kelcey Marston scored his fourth goal of the game to give Huntingdon a 10-9 lead entering the fourth quarter

Fourth Quarter

  • The Pacers put in two unanswered goals to take a 11-10 lead by the 11:07 mark

  • Not to be outdone, Kelcey Marston scored for the fifth time at the 10:11 mark to even the game at 11

  • William Peace scored two more goals to hold a 13-11 advantage with 8:33 to go

  • Tristan Dial scored at the 8:11 mark to put Huntingdon behind 13-12

  • Goals from Colton Keglovic and Kelcey Marston gave the Hawks a 14-13 lead with one minute to go, but the Pacers forced overtime with a goal in the final 15 seconds

Overtime

  • Following two scoreless overtime periods, the two teams entered the third overtime period in a defensive stalemate. Just when it seemed that neither team could find a clear lane to the goal, Gage Kettlewell forced his way to the crease and scored the game-winning goal for the Hawks
