HUNTINGDON MEN’S SOCCER FALLS AFTER SECOND-HALF SURGE BY SOUTHEASTERN

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon College men's soccer team battled Southeastern University evenly for the first 76 minutes on Thursday.

But the Fire scored three goals in the final 14 minutes to take a 4-1 victory.

"Our performance in the second half did not match our performance in the first half," Huntingdon head coach Kevin Ray said. "As well as we played in the first half, I wasn't surprised we were up 1-0. But in the second half, we didn't continue with the same intensity and desire. If you don't play with those two elements, you're going to struggle to win games.

"If we play like we did in the first half, we're going to be in a lot of games this season. We showed a lot in the first half that we can build off of."

The Hawks (0-3-1) took a 1-0 lead 27 minutes into the game when Rusty Cowley scored on a Chris Blight assist. Southeastern (2-2) answered a little less than 18 minutes into the second half as Austin Welker tied the game on a Shawn Meek assist.

The tie stood until Philip Tull's goal with 13:04 to play. Matthew Sandford had the assist. Stuart Branstetter scored the Fire's third goal on an assist from Andy Osborn. Branstetter had the assist on Stephen Eppinger's goal to close the scoring.

Huntingdon keeper Jordan Osborne had six saves.
