Huntingdon men’s soccer wins season opener on the road

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Seniors Jack Allen and Stacy Terry scored goals less than two minutes apart as the Huntingdon men's soccer team knocked off LaGrange 2-1 on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

The Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the 23rd minute before Allen tied the game in the 31st minute. Terry scored in the 33rd minute to put Huntingdon in front. The defense and keeper Matt Russell made the lead stand.

"This was a great win for our guys," first-year Huntingdon head coach Timmy McCormack said. "We withstood a lot from them early in the game and we went down a goal. But we responded well. Our seniors stepped up and Jack and Stacy came through with two big goals. Our younger guys played well and showed us some good things too.

"This was a step forward for us, but it was just a step. We've got to keep working."

The Hawks took five shots for the game, with four shots on goal. LaGrange took eight shots on goal. Russell finished with five saves.

The Hawks travel to Louisiana College on Monday.
