Huntingdon men’s soccer loses battle with Concordia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team scored first on Saturday and battled Concordia College for 90 minutes. Concordia took a 3-1 victory, but Huntingdon head coach Timmy McCormack was pleased with his team's performance against the NAIA team.

"I thought we did a lot of good things today," McCormack said. "It was big for us to come out and score first and set the tone early. We kept them off the score sheet for about 15 minutes and really played well during the first 20-25 minutes. That portion of the game was one of the best we've played all season. But Concordia has a very skilled and very quick team. They scored two more goals and went up 3-1 at the half.

"There was a 20-minute span late in the first half where we let them start playing the way they wanted to. They made some good tactical changes and we didn't respond to them as well as we needed to. But that's something we're going to learn from. With time, we're going to eliminate those mistakes. This group of guys has a strong desire to be successful and we don't give up. That's definitely something we can keep building on."

The Hawks (2-3) went up 1-0, a little more than four minutes into the game, when Stacy Terry scored off of a corner kick by Robbie Farquhar.

Concordia (4-2) tied the game in the 15th minute and took the lead at the 26th minute. Concordia added its final goal with a little more than two minutes left in the first half.

Terry finished with two shots on goal and Turner Adcock, Jack Allen, Chris Blight, Rhett Williams and Brady McMillan each took one shot on goal.

Huntingdon keeper Dominique Thomas recorded seven saves.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, hosting Talladega College at 4 p.m.

"The biggest thing I want to see us do is come out and set the tone from the beginning on Tuesday," McCormack said. "Today, we played a very strong 20-25 minutes in the first half. Our goal now is to expand on that in the next game."
