Terry’s hat trick leads Huntingdon past Oakwood

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Stacy Terry scored three goals as the Huntingdon men's soccer team knocked off Oakwood 3-0 on Sunday.

Terry scored in the first 11 minutes of the game, added a second goal just before halftime and scored his final goal early in the second half. Terry's first two goals came on assists from Rhett Williams and the final goal came on an assist from Jack Allen.

"Stacy played very well today," Huntingdon head coach Timmy McCormack said. "He's really come on strong the past few games and he's going to be a key for us going forward. I'm really glad to see him and several of our seniors stepping up and taking charge of this team."

McCormack said he was also pleased to see how his team responded to its third game in five days, including a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Rhodes on Saturday.

"Our mental toughness was what impressed me today," McCormack said. "Physically, we matched up well with them. But coming off a tough 110-minute game on Saturday, we had to be mentally tough to play as well as we did today."

Brennan Van Meter and Austin Savage each took two shots on goal for the Hawks (3-4-1) and Williams had one shot on goal. Keeper Alex Brown recorded six saves.

Huntingdon travels to Covenant on Sept. 29 for a 3 p.m. game.
