Terry breaks Huntingdon NCAA-era scoring record

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Stacy Terry's goal in the 78th minute provided the difference in the Huntingdon men's soccer team's 1-0 win over LaGrange on Wednesday.

The goal, off of an assist from Robbie Farquhar, was Terry's 10th of the season and broke Huntingdon's NCAA-era single season scoring mark.

"When a program transitions from NAIA to NCAA, you have two separate eras," Huntingdon head coach Timmy McCormack said of the change in affiliations Huntingdon completed almost a decade ago. "In the NCAA era, Stacy has been one of the foremost players for Huntingdon. When I was coaching at Piedmont and he was just a freshman, he was already a player that stood out. He has continued to develop during the past three years and he has matured into a player with a great understanding of the game.

"He's a very quiet and humble guy away from the field. On the field, he lets his play do his talking. It's great for a guy like that to be able to leave a mark on the program."

Wednesday was also Senior Day for the Hawks and McCormack said he was happy to see the seniors play a role in the win.

"It was good to see all of our seniors contribute today," McCormack said. "Stacy was a good leader today, Chris Blight and Jack Allen both played well up top, Matty Bolding and Michael Vecsey helped control the right side of the field early in the game, Cannon Elkins has become a stalwart of our defense and Matt Russell played well in goal. All of them contributed to this win and showed the strength of this senior class."

Russell finished with seven saves in 90 minutes.

Huntingdon travels to Piedmont on Friday for a 6 p.m. game.
