MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Under first-year head coach Matt Williams, preseason practice is in full swing for the Huntingdon men's soccer team.

"We've had a very positive start to the season this year," Williams said. "All the boys have shown up with a great mind-set and we have worked very hard to push ourselves each session."

This year's soccer team will feature 30 players, including 15 newcomers.

Five starters return from a year ago, including sophomore Rhett Williams, Robbie Farquhar, Brennan Van Meter, Nick Alverson and Jacob Brooks. As a freshman, Williams was the Hawks' second-leading scorer with seven goals. Williams, along with Farquhar, both started in all 18 games in 2012.

"We'll be looking to lean on our experienced players, like Alverson and Farquhar, who have set the standard as far as commitment level and determination," Williams said. "The younger players have adjusted well to their new surroundings and we'll be looking for them to continue that process as the season goes on."

The Hawks open the season at home on Aug. 30 against Warren Wilson at 4 p.m.
