MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team opened its season on Friday with a 4-0 win over the Warren Wilson Owls at the Huntingdon soccer field.

Freshman Brendon Van Emelen led the Hawks in scoring and picked up the hat trick with three goals and one assist, while freshman Austin Stacey scored the Hawks' final goal to cap the shutout.

"It just comes down to a good team effort," head coach Matt Williams said. "We had a decent game plan, we all stuck to the game plan, and everybody gave 110-percent effort. Not one guy stuck out as far as working harder than the others. Now we leave this game, we're very happy about it, and we look to the next one."

Huntingdon put the first point on the board in the 10th minute when Van Emelen knocked in his first collegiate goal. He backed that up with his second in the 18th minute, before getting the assist on Stacey's goal in the 33rd minute to cap the scoring in the opening half. Van Emelen came back in the 69th minute to record his third goal to end scoring for the game.

Junior Dominique Thomas played 79 minutes at goalkeeper and recorded two saves, while Warren Wilson's Pat Albright played all 90 minutes and picked up 11 saves. As a team the Hawks took 26 shots, while the Owls took just three.

The Hawks will be back in action at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Millsaps.
