Men’s soccer forces OT, but comes up short against Sewanee

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's Zach Dedman scored in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, but Sewanee answered in overtime for a 2-1 win on Friday night at Samford Stadium.

The Tigers scored with 2:17 left in overtime to end the game.

This was the second straight overtime loss for the Hawks (1-4-2) and the fourth overtime or double overtime game of the season.

"This was another tough one. Losing in overtime like that is hard to swallow," Huntingdon head coach Matt Williams said. "We came out a little flat and made some early mistakes. But after their first goal, we responded and had a lot of chances throughout the second half.

"We showed a tremendous amount of determination and it was rewarded with a goal in the last minute of regulation. We will build confidence from our second half and look forward to starting conference games next weekend."

Sewanee took a 1-0 lead late in the first half. After being held to three shots in the first half, Huntingdon took eight shots in the second half. With 52 seconds left in regulation, Dedman scored on an assist from Brendon Van Emelen to tie the game.

Keeper Alex Brown recorded seven saves and two goals allowed in a little less than 98 minutes.
