FERRUM, Va. - The Huntingdon men's soccer team opened USA South Athletic Conference play with a 1-1 tie against Ferrum College in double overtime on Friday.

Huntingdon freshman Dylan Wier scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute. He finished with two shots and one of the Hawks' two shots on goal. Four different players (Wier, Zach den Besten, Rhett Williams and Killian Delmore) recorded two shots for the Hawks (1-4-3, 0-0-1 USA South). den Besten had the other shot on goal.

Ferrum (2-5-2, 0-2-1, USA South) took 21 shots for the game. The Panthers scored in the 64th minute to tie the game.

Keeper Alex Brown recorded nine saves and one goal allowed for the Hawks.

"This was another great effort from the players," Huntingdon head coach Matt Williams said. "We worked from the first whistle all the way through the two overtimes. We started the game well, put pressure on them and scored a deserved goal. The second half was very tough. They piled on the pressure and their fans really helped encourage them. Our boys had to dig deep, and other than a couple of minutes, we handled ourselves well. We had a couple of chances to win, but it wasn't to be.

"Overall, it was a tough point earned in a conference where points are tough to come by. But we'll move on to Sunday's game and look to be better in certain areas to give ourselves a chance for another result."
