Men’s soccer falls in 1-0 battle with Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team gave up a goal early in the second half and fell to Maryville 1-0 on Saturday.

The Scots, who were ranked third in the preseason conference poll, scored in the second minute of the second half. Maryville (7-3-1, 3-1-1 USA South) is currently tied for second in the USA South standings.

"Maryville is a very difficult team but we made things difficult for them as well today," Huntingdon head coach Matt Williams said. "We have to take the positives from that but also know that if we just play 89 minutes instead of the full 90 minutes, it's very hard to win. Our concentration and focus must improve for us to achieve our team goals. We'll take this week to improve in these areas and get ready for two big games on the road next weekend."

Huntingdon keeper Alex Brown, who is tied for the conference lead with 91 saves this season, recorded 10 saves against Maryville.

Killian Delmore took two of the Hawks' five shots on Saturday and had one shot on goal. Dylan Wier, Brendon Van Emelen and Miguel Vidal each took one shot for Huntingdon (2-5-3, 1-1-1 USA South).

Huntingdon travels to Greensboro and Averett for two conference games next weekend. The Hawks play at Greensboro on Saturday at 1 p.m. and at Averett on Sunday at 3 p.m.
