MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Hendrix College, 2-0.

"Today was a great team win. Everyone contributed. We were organized defensively, possessed the ball well, and attacked with a purpose," head coach Matt Cooper said.

Huntingdon (1-1-0) controlled the ball for most of the game. The Hawks took Hendrix (0-1-1) to halftime with a 0-0 tie.

"We had a lot of possession so we were able to dictate the pace of the game," Cooper said. "We were able to pick and choose our chances well and it paid off. We scored two great goals off of good combination play through our midfield."

Freshman Andres Quintero scored the game's first goal with an assist from Tyler DeJianne in the 50th minute.

Nine minutes later, DeJianne scored his second goal of the season to put the Hawks up 2-0. Quintero recorded an assist on the second goal.

Huntingdon out-shot the Warriors 20-6 and placed 10 shots on goal to Hendrix's two. Killian Delmore led the Hawks with six shots.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Brown recorded two saves.

Cooper hopes that this play will continue from his team.

"We put together 90 minutes today," Cooper said. "Hopefully we can replicate this type of performance throughout the season. If we can, we will have a lot of success this year."

The Hawks will host Spalding University (1-1) on Sunday at 3 p.m. as part of the Huntingdon Tournament. LaGrange College (0-2) will play Hendrix at 1 p.m.
