MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team opened USA South Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Ferrum College.
Sophomore Dylan Wier scored the game's first goal in the 58th minute after Ferrum's goalkeeper slipped while trying to stop the ball. Wier finished with three shots, two shots on goal and one goal.
Ferrum (2-4, 1-0 USA South) took the momentum from Huntingdon (1-4-1, 0-1 USA South) by scoring its first of three goals 57 seconds later.
The Panthers outshot Huntingdon 14-7 for the game. The Hawks tied Ferrum 4-4 in shots through the first half, but were outshot 10-3 in the second half.
Brendon Van Emelen recorded two shots and two shots on goal. Miguel Vidal and Bo Jenkins each took one shot.
Goalkeeper Alex Brown allowed three goals and made five saves.
Huntingdon plays conference opponent William Peace at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Samford Stadium.
