Hawks knock off Peace for first conference win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Bo Jenkins scored a game-winning goal in the 79th minute on Sunday to help Huntingdon defeat William Peace 1-0.

This was the first USA South Athletic Conference win for Huntingdon (2-4-1, 1-1 USA South) this season.

"Today was a good response from the boys," Huntingdon coach Matt Cooper said. "We did not play well on Saturday and we needed to bounce back with a good performance and we did. I'm proud of the way we stepped up and got the win.

"Overall, it was a good weekend for the team. We had a tough loss Saturday but we regrouped today, got the win, and we are right back on track. We will keep improving and work hard and that will lead to more good results."

The Hawks and Pacers battled hard all game and each team had moments where they could have taken the lead. Jenkins was able to outrun a Pacer defender and finish his shot over the goalie to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. William Peace took three shots in the final 10 minutes, but was unable to capitalize.

Jenkins finished with one shot, one shot on goal and one goal.

The Hawks outshot William Peace 16-9. Huntingdon took 11 shots in the second half while the Pacers (2-7-0, 1-1 USA South).

Killian Delmore, Tyler DeJianne and Dylan Wier all finished with three shots and one shot on goal. Zach den Besten recorded two shots and one shot on goal. Zach Dedman and Miguel Medina each took one shot on goal.

Goalkeeper Alex Brown finished with three saves in the shutout.

Huntingdon hosts Emory on Saturday at 1 p.m.
