USA South releases men’s and women’s soccer preseason polls

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team was voted eighth and the women's soccer team was voted seventh with the release of the 2016 USA South Athletic Conference preseason soccer coaches' polls.

Greensboro and Methodist tied for first on the men's side while Maryville and Piedmont tied for first in the Western Division on the women's side.

The USA South debuted divisions for all women's sports this season. Huntingdon, along with Maryville, Piedmont, Salem, Covenant, Agnes Scott, LaGrange and Wesleyan will play in the Western Division.

Greensboro, the 2015 regular-season champion, and Methodist, 2015 USA South Tournament champion, each received four first-place votes and had a total of 91 points. Maryville received three first-place votes and totaled 88 points. Closing out the top five is N.C. Wesleyan in fourth with 72 points and Averett in fifth with 66 points.  

Maryville and Piedmont, 2015 USA South Tournament champion, each received 45 total points. Piedmont finished with five first-place votes and Maryville took home three. Salem was voted third with 38 points while Covenant placed fourth with 31 points and Agnes Scott in fifth with 25 points.

Both Huntingdon teams open the season on Sept.  1 at Birmingham-Southern. The women play at 5 p.m. while the men play at 7 p.m.
