Hawks come up short at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Senior Brendon Van Emelen scored two goals against USA South Athletic Conference rival LaGrange, but the Huntingdon men's soccer team lost 4-2 on Saturday.

LaGrange scored three first-half goals in a little over six minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Panthers (3-3-0, 1-0 USA South) scored their first goal at the 22:20 mark, their second goal at 24:27 and the third goal at 28:23.

Van Emelen scored his first goal of the game at the 51:57 mark and scored 25 seconds later with an assist from Mac Puller to pull the Hawks (1-3-1, 0-1 USA South) within one goal.

LaGrange's Levi Gehman scored just over three minutes later off a rebound of a Dakota Gruzdas save.

Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

LaGrange outshot Huntingdon 14-10 and held an 8-5 shots on goal advantage in the match.

Van Emelen had a game-high four shots on goal and scored twice, giving him five goals for the season. Conner Howard and Bo Jenkins each recorded two shots while John Robert Lawrence recorded one shot on goal. Puller had one assist.

Gruzdas made four stops while allowing four goals in 90 minutes.

Huntingdon hosts Piedmont College on Friday at 5 p.m. at Samford Stadium.
