Huntingdon men’s tennis competing in USTA/ITA Regional this weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team is looking to gain experience this weekend in the USTA/ITA South Atlantic Regional Championship Tournament.

The Hawks are carrying nine players to the tournament at Emory University. All nine will play in the B-draw singles and eight of the nine will play in the B-draw doubles.

"Our guys have been working hard and they're excited to have the chance to go play," Huntingdon men's tennis coach Charlie Lane said. "We have four freshmen and this will be their first collegiate competition, so that will be good for them. It's going to be good experience and it will help us see what we need to improve on between now and the spring season."

Lane said the tournament will feature some impressive talent.

"Emory is the defending national champion and North Carolina Wesleyan was ranked in the top five last year. Traditional southern powers like Oglethorpe, Sewanee, Rhodes, Birmingham-Southern and Mississippi College are going to be there too," Lane said. "There aren't going to be any easy matches."

The three-day tournament starts on Friday and is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. each day. Draws for the tournament can be found at http://www.emoryathletics.com/sports/mten/2012-13/releases/20120926wc3r5a
