Huntingdon men’s tennis battles in first day of John McWilliams Fall Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team picked up solid singles and doubles play on Saturday to open the John McWilliams Fall Invitational at Lagoon Park.
Huntingdon is tied for second entering the final day of the tournament. Birmingham-Southern leads the team standings with 12 points. Huntingdon and Point University each have seven points and Millsaps is fourth with four points.
The Hawks earned two doubles points with wins at No. 2 (Tyler Creamer-Meyer Schwartsberg) and No. 3 (Trey Pirtle-Tyler Chaffee) to open play.
In singles, No. 5 (Chaffee) swept both of his matches to contribute two points and Zac Baldwin (No. 2), Creamer (No. 4) and Justin McQueen (No. 6) each won one match and lost one match to add three points. Bobby Foroughian (No. 1) dropped a pair of three-set matches and Schwartsberg (No. 3) lost twice.
In the B-draw doubles, the team of Ryan Runager-Seth McClendon lost in the semifinals. The team of Eric Busch-McQueen will play in the semifinals on Sunday.
In the B-draw singles, Pirtle won his first match before falling in the quarterfinals. Runager dropped his first-round match but won his consolation match. Busch won in the first round, lost in the second round and will play in the consolation round on Sunday.
Sunday's final round is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park.
