MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team is hoping to live up to its preseason ranking this year in a new conference. This will be the Hawks' first season as a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Huntingdon enters the season ranked No. 3 in the preseason conference poll.

"We're excited, but we realize this season will be a big challenge," Huntingdon head coach Charlie Lane said. "We were picked third by the conference coaches, which is a big compliment since we are the newcomers."

The Hawks' past success speaks for itself. Huntingdon was 13-5 as an Independent last season. Prior to that, the Hawks reached the Great South Athletic Conference tournament championship match five straight years. Huntingdon was the GSAC champion three times during that span.

With five of his top six singles players returning from last season, Lane hopes to see his team compete for similar success in the USA South.

"It's nice to have so much experience returning," Lane said. "We feel confident going into the season and we're ready to get started."

Huntingdon opens the season on Saturday at Millsaps. The Hawks play Tougaloo at 11 a.m. and will play Millsaps at 3 p.m.
