Foroughian named USA South Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon sophomore Bobby Foroughian was unbeaten at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles last week to earn USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

In singles, Foroughian improved to 8-1 this season with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 win at Greensboro and a 6-4, 6-3 win at Averett. In doubles, Foroughian and teammate Zac Baldwin remained unbeaten (9-0) with an 8-0 win against Greensboro and an 8-3 win against Averett.

Baseball Player of the Week
Perry Rigby, Covenant - The sophomore third baseman from Decatur, Alabama went a combined 13-for-21 (.619) with eight RBI, six runs scored, four doubles and one walk as the Scots posted a 3-1 record last week. In a 16-15 extra-inning loss to Berry, Rigby was 1-for-7 with one run scored. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe Greensboro, Rigby was a combined 12-for-14 (.857) with eight RBI, five runs scored, four doubles and one walk. Also Nominated: Jason Carter, Averett; Will Skidmore, Piedmont; Adam Duncan, Ferrum; Ciro Norzagaray, N.C. Wesleyan.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Cody Moore, Averett - The Yorktown, Virginia senior earned a complete-game shutout victory in his only appearance on the mound last week, a 6-0 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan. Moore went the distance while allowing just four hits without a walk and a career-high 13 strikeouts to earn the victory. Also Nominated: Chris Goershel, Piedmont; Manny Torres, Ferrum.

Softball Player of the Week
Rhyan Scearce, Averett - The sophomore infielder from Danville, Virginia went a combined 8-for-16 (.500) with six runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and two walks as the Cougars posted a 4-2 record last week versus USA South competition. In a doubleheader sweep of Methodist, Scearce was a combined 4-for-4 with two runs scored, one double and one walk. In a doubleheader split with LaGrange, Scearce was a combined 3-for-6 with three RBI, one run scored and one double. Finally, in a doubleheader split with Huntingdon, Scearce was a combined 1-for-6 with three runs scored and one walk. Softball Pitcher of the Week
Brittany Head, Piedmont - The Cumming, Georgia senior appeared in two games last week, both starts, and earned a 2-0 record versus USA South competition by tossing a total of 13.0 innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. In a 5-2 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Head tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with zero walks and six strikeouts. In a 2-0 victory over Meredith, Head earned the complete-game shutout win by allowing just three hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Also Nominated: Lexie Randolph, Maryville; Amy Hamlett, Averett; Aaryn Deal, William Peace; Olivia Wolfe, LaGrange; Amanda Beirne, Meredith; Brooke Meadows, Huntingdon.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
Katie Burnet, Meredith - The Apex, North Carolina sophomore midfielder totaled 15 points on nine goals and six assists in a 2-1 week for the Avenging Angels. She also added nine groundballs, nine caused turnovers and eight draw controls last week. In a 15-9 loss to Plymouth State, Burnet scored four goals with four caused turnovers, three draw controls and two groundballs. In a 12-11 victory over USA South foe Greensboro, Burnet totaled two goals, three assists, five draw controls, four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Finally, in an 11-10, overtime, win over USA South rival Ferrum, Burnet scored three goals, dished out three assists, grabbed three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Also Nominated: Cassie Walter, Methodist; Kayla Jones, Piedmont; Caila Cummings, Ferrum; Kirstin Norris, Greensboro; Jen Price, Huntingdon. 

Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Katie Sills, Meredith - The Bluffton, South Carolina freshman defender helped the Avenging Angels to a 2-1 record last week by totaling eight groundballs and seven caused turnovers. In a 15-9 loss to Plymouth State, Sills caused two turnovers and grabbed one groundball. In a 12-11 victory over USA South foe Greensboro, Sills totaled two groundballs. Finally, in an 11-10, overtime, win over USA South rival Ferrum, Sills contributed a game-high five caused turnovers with five groundballs which included a caused turnover and groundball which set-up the game-winning goal in overtime. Also Nominated: Carly Haraka, Piedmont; Alexis McDonald, Huntingdon.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Bobby Foroughian, Huntingdon - The sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana earned a 2-0 record at both the number-one singles doubles positions last week versus USA South opponents Greensboro and Averett. In doubles, Foroughian teamed with Zac Baldwin to collect the Conference wins. Also Nominated: Duncan Miller, Methodist; Nicolas Quevedo, Averett.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Natalia Lopez, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Maracaibo, Venezuela earned a 3-0 record at number one singles and a 2-1 mark at the top doubles spot last week for the Bishops versus USA South competition. Lopez earned singles wins over opponents from Piedmont, Covenant and Greensboro. In doubles action, Lopez teamed with two separate partners to collect wins over Covenant and Greensboro. Also Nominated: Laura Baker, Methodist; Katie Sailors, Piedmont; Abigail Nails, William Peace; Hannah Still, Huntingdon; Puja Patel, Meredith.

 

Rookies of the Week

Baseball Rookie of the Week
Z Arima, Covenant - The freshman catcher from Herriman, Utah went a combined 6-for-12 (.500) with three RBI, two runs scored and one walk as the Scots posted a 3-1 record last week. In a 16-15 extra-inning loss to Berry, Arima was 4-for-6 with one run scored and one run batted in. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe Greensboro, Arima played two of the contests and was a combined 2-for-6 (.333) with two RBI, one run scored and one walk. Also Nominated: Griffin Olson, Piedmont.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Justin Yestrumsky, LaGrange - The Lilburn, Georgia freshman earned a complete-game win in his only appearance last week for the Panthers, an 11-2 victory over USA South foe Maryville. Yestrumsky went the distance allowing two runs on four hits with zero walks and three strikeouts to collect the victory. Also Nominated: Preston Graham, Piedmont; Cody Johnson, Averett; Ryan Grant, N.C. Wesleyan.

Softball Rookie of the Week
Brandi Stamey, William Peace - The freshman centerfielder from Mooresville, North Carolina went a combined 5-for-7 (.714) with a 1.286 slugging percentage, nine runs scored, eight RBI, one double, one home run, nine walks and two stolen bases as the Pacers posted a 3-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a doubleheader split with Maryville, Stamey was a combined 2-for-4 with three runs scored, one run batted in, one double, two walks and one stolen base. In a doubleheader sweep of Mary Baldwin, Stamey was a combined 3-for-3 with six runs scored, seven RBI, one home run, five walks and one stolen base. Also Nominated: Allison Vaughn, Piedmont; Samantha Hall, Averett; Tanya Van Dyk, Methodist; Katlyn Johnson, Meredith; Amanda Roberts, Ferrum.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Amanda Roberts, Ferrum - The Lawrenceville, Virginia freshman appeared in three games last week, two of which were starts, and earned a 2-0 record by tossing a total of 12.1 innings, allowing six runs on 19 hits with four walks and five strikeouts. In an 11-3, five-inning, win over Randolph, Roberts went the distance and allowed three runs on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts to collect the victory. In a 7-1 loss to Randolph, Roberts pitched just one-third of an inning without allowing a run for a no-decision. Finally, in a 4-3 win over USA South foe Meredith, Roberts earned a complete-game victory by allowing three runs on 11 hits with zero walks and three strikeouts. Also Nominated: None. 

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Kayla Jones, Piedmont - The Lawrenceville, Georgia freshman attacker tallied 23 points on 15 goals and eight assists with four groundballs, two caused turnovers and one draw control as the Lions earned a 2-1 record last week. In a 23-1 win over USA South foe LaGrange, Jones totaled five goals, three assists, two caused turnovers, one groundball and one draw control. In a 20-8 victory over Transylvania, Jones scored four goals with three assists. Finally, in a 16-14 loss to Centre, Jones scored six goals, dished out two assists and grabbed three groundballs. Also Nominated: Madison Antor, Methodist; Molly Miller, Meredith; Tori Krupa, Huntingdon.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Elias Kerem, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Stockholm, Sweden earned a 3-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark last week for the Bishops. In singles, Kerem collected two wins at the number-four spot over opponents from USA South rival Piedmont and nationally-ranked Bates to go along with a victory at the number-three position over an opponent from Conference foe Covenant. In doubles, Kerem had two partners at the number-two positions to collect three wins over USA South opponents Piedmont, Covenant and Greensboro. Also Nominated: John Dangerfield, Methodist; Nicolas Quevedo, Averett; Sebastian Riveros Florez, Huntingdon. 

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
