Men’s tennis survives battle with Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 win over Piedmont College on Saturday to remain unbeaten against USA South competition.

The win was the ninth straight for the Hawks (9-3, 6-0 USA South). With three conference matches remaining, Huntingdon is second in the USA South standings. North Carolina Wesleyan (9-5, 7-0 USA South) leads the conference and LaGrange (7-2, 5-0 USA South) is third.

In Saturday's match, the Hawks took a 2-1 lead after doubles with victories by Sebastian Riveros Florez and Meyer Schwartzberg at No. 2 and Trey Pirtle and John Jones at No. 3.

In singles, Sebastian Riveros Florez (No. 2) won a three-set match that lasted more than four hours. It was the ninth straight win for Florez. Zac Baldwin (No. 4) and Aaron Triplett (No. 6) picked up Huntingdon's other two singles victories. The win was the eighth straight for Baldwin.

Huntingdon hosts LaGrange on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
