Hawks eliminate Covenant in USA South men’s tennis tournament
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team earned a return trip to the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 5-4 win over Covenant on Friday.
The third-seeded Hawks (12-5) will play second-seeded Methodist (12-4) in the semifinals on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Against Covenant, Huntingdon built a 2-1 lead entering singles. The No. 3 doubles team of Trey Pirtle-Tyler Chaffee won 8-1 and the No. 2 team of Sebastian Riveros Florez-Meyer Schwartzberg won 8-2. Pirtle and Chaffee are 9-0 this season and Florez-Schwartzberg are 13-3.
In singles, Schwartzberg won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Zac Baldwin won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead. Aaron Triplett's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles clinched the match for the Hawks. The win was the 10th of the season for Triplett (10-5).
