Hawks tennis splits with Rust and Berry

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team defeated Rust College 9-0 but lost to Berry 9-0 on Saturday.
The Hawks earned their second win of the season after beating Rust but fell to 2-4 after the Berry match.
Against Rust, Huntingdon put together an impressive match and failed to drop a set in any of the nine matches.
All three doubles teams took 8-0 victories while the top six singles spots took 6-0, 6-0 wins.
In doubles, the team of Trevor Berry and Adam Self won at No. 1, Bailey Burns and Ben Marler won at No. 2 and Mark Melchor and Ethan Fuller won at No. 3.
In singles, Burns won at No. 1, Marler won at No. 2, Melchor won at No.3, Fuller won at No. 4, Anjala Chandrasoma won at No. 5 and Berry won at No. 6.
In the second match of the day, the Hawks struggled with the Vikings. The No. 3 doubles team of Burns and Marler lost 8-6. In singles, Marler battled hard but came up short, losing 6-4, 6-4.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to LaGrange to open USA South play.
