Hawks win rematch with LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team picked up a crucial conference win on Wednesday with a 7-2 victory over LaGrange College.

The win evened the season series at 1-1. The Hawks fell 6-3 in the first meeting with LaGrange earlier this month.

With the win, Huntingdon (5-7, 2-2 USA South) moves into third place in the USA South Athletic Conference West Division standings and LaGrange (8-5, 2-3 USA South) drops to fourth place. Covenant and Piedmont lead the West Division standings.

The top three teams in the West Division will advance to the conference tournament in April. Huntingdon has four conference matches remaining (Covenant twice, Piedmont and Maryville) and LaGrange has three conference matches remaining (Maryville, Piedmont and Covenant).

In Wednesday's win, the Hawks took two wins in doubles and won five of the six singles matches. The No. 2 doubles team of Justin McQueen-Ryan Runager and the No. 3 team of Adam Self-Ben Marler each won 8-4.

In singles, John Jones (No. 1), McQueen (No. 2), Self (No. 3), Ben Marler (No. 5) and Mark Melchor (No. 6) each won in straight sets.

Huntingdon plays at Covenant (6-6, 2-0 USA South) on Saturday.
