Hawks compete in ITA Regional
ROME, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's tennis team recently competed in the ITA Regional Championships.
Eight Hawks competed in the tournament, highlighted by freshman Kevaughnte Merrion reaching the consolation semifinals in singles and seniors John Jones and Bailey Burns teamed up to reach the consolation semifinals in doubles.
Merrionn lost in the first round of the Silver Draw, but won twice in the consolation bracket. Merrionn drew a bye in the first round of consolation play, won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(7) in the second round and defeated teammate Anjala Chandrasoma 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(8) in the consolation quarterfinals. Merrion lost 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation semifinals. Chandrasoma advanced to the consolation quarterfinals with a win by default and a bye.
In doubles, the team of Jones-Burns lost its first match in the Gold Draw to drop into the consolation bracket. The duo drew a bye in the first round of consolation, won 8-6 in the second round of consolation and lost 8-6 in the consolation semifinals.
Sophomores Adam Self and Trevor Berry picked up the Hawks' other two wins. Self won 6-0, 6-0 in the Gold Draw of singles and Berry won 6-0, 6-1 in the Bronze Draw of singles.
