Cross country ready to open season

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon men's and women's cross country teams will open the season on Friday evening in Oxford, Ala.

In the program's third season back after a four-year hiatus, Huntingdon will begin the season in the JSU Strut's Season Opener.

The women's 4K race is set for 6 p.m. with the men's 5K race to follow at around 6:45 p.m.

Head Coach Ed Wright on the progress during the preseason: "I am very pleased with the effort and progress I've seen so far. I've already seen a lot of improvement since Day 1 of practice. The kids are responding well and we have a good atmosphere around the program right now."

Wright on starting the season: "The first meet of the season will allow us to see where we are and give us a starting point to measure from. The biggest thing I'm looking for right now is how we compete. We're not just showing up to run, I want to see how each of our runners competes for the full race."

Wright on the team's approach this season: "The mindset I want us to have is that everything we're doing is preparing us for the conference meet. We want to do our best each time out, but we're going to view each practice and each meet as preparation for the conference tournament. We want to build and be at our best at the end of the season."
