Piedmont Forces Game Two in the GSAC Championship

MACON, Ga. --- After winning two straight Great South Athletic Conference tournament games, Huntingdon College's softball team fell, 5-1, against number one seeded Piedmont College on Sunday morning. With the win, the Lions forced a game two against the Lady Hawks for the title beginning at 2:30 Eastern on Wesleyan College's campus.

Piedmont's Brittney Head (13-5), GSAC Freshman of the Year, held the Lady Hawks to only one run on three hits while striking out eight batters in the Lions' win. Freshman Holly Ostrander (2-for-3) paced Huntingdon's bats with two hits in the loss.

GSAC Pitcher of the Year Bree Giordana (12-4) suffered her fourth loss of the season after allowing three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings against Piedmont. Sophomore Melissa McClure recorded the final two outs for Huntingdon while allowing two runs on three hits.

Huntingdon's only run came in the top of the 1st inning when junior Aleah Payne scored on a throwing error by Piedmont's catcher to third base, 1-0.

After four scoreless innings, Piedmont's offense woke up and scored three runs, 3-1, in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Lions secured the win and forcing a second game by adding two more runs, 5-1, in the bottom of the 6th inning while shutting down Huntingdon at the plate.

The GSAC softball championship will be determined during the final game today starting at 2:30 Eastern at Wesleyan.
