Huntingdon softball remains unbeaten in Great South Athletic Conference

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon softball team rapped out 37 hits and scored 44 runs in a pair of five-inning games against Spelman on Thursday. The Lady Hawks took the first game 21-2 and finished the doubleheader with a 23-0 win in Game 2.

As a team, Huntingdon (14-9, 5-0 Great South Athletic Conference) was 17-for-29 at the plate in Game 1 and 20-for-32 in the second game.

Senior Aleah Payne and freshman Morgan Goshorn each hit three-run homers. Goshorn's home run came in Game 1 and Payne's homer came in Game 2. Payne finished the day 4-for-7 with six RBIs, six runs and four stolen bases.

In Game 1, Lauren Welch was 4-for-4 with four runs and three stolen bases. Jenna Rimensnyder was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases, Holly Ostrander was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases and Hayley Praytor was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Kristi Taylor was 2-for-4 with a run and Angela Barkman scored twice.

Praytor also had two RBIs and a run in the second game and Barkman was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a run in Game 2.

In the second game, Katelyn Atkins was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, Shelby Graham was 2-for-4 and scored four runs and Bree Giordana had an RBI and three runs. Anna Stephens was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, Kari Ranczka was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, Ashley Johnson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs and Brittany Richardson had two RBIs and a run.

Melissa McClure (5-4) picked up the win in Game 1, striking out nine, allowing two hits and one run in 3 2/3 innings. Barkman pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Giordana (8-5) got the win in Game 2, throwing a one-hitter and striking out eight in 3 1/3 innings. Atkins struck out four and allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday in a doubleheader at Wesleyan. Game 1 is set for noon.
