Payne’s 10 RBIs lead Huntingdon in sweep of Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team picked up its eighth win in 10 games with a 14-2 and 28-0 sweep of Wesleyan on Sunday. Both games were five innings.

Senior Aleah Payne led Huntingdon (16-9, 7-0 Great South Athletic Conference) at the plate, going 9-for-9 with 10 RBIs, eight runs, five triples, two doubles and five stolen bases in the two games. Payne was 4-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs, two triples, two doubles and a stolen base in Game 1 and was 5-for-5 with six RBIs, five runs, three triples and four stolen bases in the second game.

Lauren Welch was 5-for-8 in the doubleheader with three RBIs and five runs. Welch hit a three-run homer in Game 2.

Jenna Rimensnyder scored twice in the first game and was 2-for-4 with four runs, two RBIs and four stolen bases in the second game. Holly Ostrander finished the day with four RBIs and three runs and Angela Barkman scored four runs in the two games.

In Game 2, Bree Giordana was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs and Chasity Ward was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs.

Melissa McClure (6-4) picked up the win in Game 1, throwing a one-hitter, walking one and striking out six in three innings. Barkman pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and two runs, striking out two and walking four.

Giordana (9-5) picked up the second win, throwing a one-hitter, striking out 11 and walking two in five innings.

Huntingdon travels to Agnes Scott for a GSAC doubleheader on Wednesday.
