DECATUR, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team swept its third straight doubleheader with two wins over conference rival Agnes Scott on Wednesday.
The Lady Hawks came from behind to win the first game 6-3. Huntingdon won the second game 16-0 in five innings.
The Lady Hawks (18-9, 9-0 Great South Athletic Conference) rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the first game. Trailing in the sixth inning, Huntingdon scored four runs to take the lead. Morgan Goshorn singled to score Holly Ostrander and Hayley Praytor singled in Kari Ranczka to tie the game. Angela Barkman scored on an Ashley Johnson single to give Huntingdon the lead. The Lady Hawks went up 5-3 when Jenna Rimensnyder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Kristi Taylor.
Ostrander scored on a passed ball in the seventh inning to close out the scoring. Aleah Payne scored Huntingdon's first run of the game on an Agnes Scott error in the fourth inning.
Huntingdon put Agnes Scott (14-10, 6-6 GSAC) away quickly in Game 2. The Lady Hawks scored six runs in the first two innings and hit three home runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Payne hit a solo homer in the fourth and a three-run homer in the fifth and Barkman hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Payne was 5-for-8 with two home runs, six RBIs, five runs and three stolen bases in the two games. Barkman was 6-for-8 with the two-run homer, four RBIs, three runs and a stolen base.
Johnson was 5-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs and Goshorn was 4-for-7 with an RBI and two runs.
In Game 2, Lauren Welch was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run and Bree Giordana was 2-for-4 with two runs. Ostrander had two RBIs and a run in the final game.
Melissa McClure (7-4) picked up the win in Game 1, striking out seven, walking one, allowing three runs and scattering eight hits in seven innings. Giordana (10-5) pitched a two-hitter and struck out five in five innings to pick up the win in Game 2.
Huntingdon, which has been on the road for 23 of its first 27 games, returns to action at home on Tuesday. The Lady Hawks host LaGrange in a doubleheader. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
