Huntingdon softball drops two at Berry

ROME, Ga. – Freshman Ashlee Zachmeyer accounted for four of the Huntingdon softball team's 13 hits in an 11-4 and 6-3 loss to Berry College on Sunday.

Zachmeyer finished the day 4-for-7 with two RBIs and a run. Lauren Welch also had two hits in the first game and Gabby Alcantar had two hits in the second game.

Huntingdon (0-4) scored two runs in the second inning and two runs in the sixth inning of Game 1. Brittany Richardson and Zachmeyer scored the Lady Hawks' first two runs on an error. In the sixth inning, a Zachmeyer single scored Welch and a Richardson sacrifice bunt scored Holly Ostrander.

Melissa McClure (0-2) took the loss in Game 1 and Brooke Meadows (0-2) took the loss in the second game.

Huntingdon scored all of its runs in the third inning of Game 2. Alcantar scored on an error for the first run and Welch scored on a Zachmeyer single to tie the game 2-2. Ostrander scored on an error to give Huntingdon a 3-2 lead.

Berry (4-2) answered with two runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth.

Huntingdon plays its first home game on Friday. The Lady Hawks host Birmingham-Southern in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
