Huntingdon softball loses to Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team dropped two games in its home opener Friday. The Lady Hawks fell to Birmingham-Southern 8-2 in Game 1 and 8-4 in Game 2.

Brittany Richardson led Huntingdon with three hits, three runs and a RBI in the two games and Jenna Rimensnyder had two hits and two runs.

In Game 1, Richardson scored on an error in the first inning and Rimensnyder scored on a Holly Ostrander double in the third inning. Melissa McClure took the loss in four innings.

In Game 2, Richardson, Rimensnyder and Ashlee Zachmeyer each had two hits. Richardson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning for Huntingdon's first run. The Lady Hawks scored three more runs in the sixth inning.

A sacrifice fly by Ostrander scored Richardson and a Zachmeyer double scored Rimensnyder before Ashley Johnson scored Huntingdon's final run on a wild pitch.

Ashley Hawkins took the loss in 4 1/3 innings.

Huntingdon (0-6) hosts Salem (3-5) in a Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
