Huntingdon softball totals 44 hits and 42 runs in conference sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team pushed its winning streak to eight games with a 20-0 and 22-0 sweep of Wesleyan on Saturday. Both Great South Athletic Conference games lasted five innings.

Huntingdon (14-8, 8-0 GSAC) totaled 21 hits in Game 1 and 23 hits in Game 2 and four home runs for the day. Eleven different Huntingdon players recorded at least one hit in each game. Huntingdon pitchers Melissa McClure, Brooke Meadows and Kaetlen Brown combined for no-hitters in each game.

McClure, who threw a perfect game against Wesleyan on Friday, pitched a five-inning no-hitter in Game 1. McClure struck out 10 and walked two. Brown earned the win in Game 2, striking out five and walking one in relief of starter Meadows. Meadows struck out two and walked one.

Six Huntingdon players finished the day with four hits. Jenna Rimensnyder was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and five runs, Brown was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, Ashley Johnson was 4-for-9 with five RBIs and four runs and Chasity Ward was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Holly Ostrander was 4-for-4 with four runs and a RBI in Game 1 and Alicia Gauker was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs in Game 2.

In Game 1, Brittany Richardson hit a three-run home run and Lauren Welch had a triple, a solo home run, two RBIs and two runs. Jade Reynolds hit a grand slam and scored three runs.

In Game 2, Halleigh DiNicholas hit a three-run home run. DiNicholas finished the day with four RBIs and two runs. Ashlee Zachmeyer was one of three Lady Hawks with three hits in the second game. Zachmeyer had three RBIs and two runs in the game. Kari Ranczka scored three runs in the second game and four for the day.

Huntingdon travels to Agnes Scott on Sunday for a doubleheader. Game 1 is set for noon.
