Huntingdon softball falls to 11th-ranked Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a conference doubleheader to 11th-ranked Piedmont on Sunday. The Lady Hawks fell 5-1 in Game 1 and lost 3-0 in Game 2.

Heather McGuirk hit a solo home run in the fourth inning of the first game for Huntingdon's run. Lauren Welch was 2-for-3 with a stolen base for the Lady Hawks (17-12, 13-5 USA South) in Game 1.

Katy Messick (6-3) took the loss in seven innings, striking out six, walking two and allowing four hits and three earned runs. Brooke Meadows (8-4) took the loss in Game 2, striking out eight and allowing three hits and one earned run in seven innings.

Piedmont (29-3, 17-1 USA South) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the second win.

Huntingdon will try to bounce back on Thursday in a conference doubleheader at LaGrange. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
