Lady Hawks advance to finals of USA South Softball Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon softball team remained unbeaten in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-0 win over LaGrange on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks (24-12) will play the winner of Piedmont (38-6) and LaGrange (22-13) on Sunday at noon Central. Huntingdon needs one win for the conference title. A loss at noon would force a second game to decide the championship.

Senior pitcher Brooke Meadows continued her dominant performance in the conference tournament on Saturday. Meadows (13-4) threw seven scoreless innings, striking out 12, allowing four hits and walking one.

In three complete conference games this weekend, Meadows is 3-0 with 33 strikeouts, five walks, nine hits and one run allowed in 21 innings. For the season, she has 141 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings. Her 9.11 strikeouts per game and 0.84 ERA lead the USA South.

Huntingdon only managed four hits in the game, but was able to score a run in the first inning and a run in the third inning. Short stop Gabby Alcantar scored both runs. Alcantar scored on a Lauren Welch double in the first inning and a Heather McGuirk single in the third inning.
