Meadows fires third one-hitter in six games to lead Lady Hawks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Brooke Meadows carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Huntingdon softball team downed Birmingham-Southern 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Panthers took the second game 9-0 in five innings as Huntingdon played its reserves.

Meadows (14-6) finished with a one-hitter, surrendering a single to Birmingham-Southern with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. She struck out the final batter to end the game and finished with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

In six complete games since Friday, Meadows has pitched three shutouts, thrown three one-hitters, recorded 56 strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in 41.3 innings.

The Lady Hawks (25-15) scored in the top of the sixth for the only run of the game. Jenna Rimensnyder drew a walk to open the inning, advanced to second on a Heather McGuirk single, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Welch and scored on a Halleigh DiNicholas fielder's choice.

Huntingdon finished with four hits in each game.

In Game 2, Birmingham-Southern (21-15) scored three runs in the first inning and built a nine-run lead in the fourth inning.

Starter Katy Messick (8-4) took the loss in one inning of work before Anna Stephens and Kaitlynn Wiggins closed out the game.
